Our Purpose
We are a collective of musicians and artists uniting as a creative response to the inhumane treatment of people and communities terrorized by U.S. Immigration agents.

“At the entrance of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., activists handed out towels reading “ICE OUT” to attendees … The other side of the towel featured a QR code, urging fans to hold up the “ICE OUT” side of the towel every time a Super Bowl referee throws a penalty flag as ‘collective penalty flags against ICE.’ Contra-ICE, an organization led by musicians and artists, was responsible for towel distribution.”

“Early in the day Sunday, around 50 activists with Contra-ICE set up along heavily-trafficked areas to pass the towels out to incoming Patriots and Seahawks fans in Santa Clara.”

“This bunny on a rally towel might reach millions of people, but even if it sparks a moment of awareness in just one person, that matters. Artists, musicians, performers, and decent people from all walks of life are pushing back against the authoritarianism we are feeling in our own country. Contra-ICE is one expression of that. Through art, humor, and creativity, we are using free expression to remind people what is at stake and to show how culture itself can be a form of resistance.” - Lalo Alcaraz, Contra-ICE Artistic Director

“… several activists gave more than 15,000 towels with the words ‘ICE OUT’ to fans attending the Super Bowl, hoping they would raise them throughout the game and during Bad Bunny’s halftime performance, to protest the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations. The gesture, called ‘Flags in the Stands,’ was organized by Contra-ICE, a coalition of artists, musicians, and community organizers.”
